Helpful Tips for FlagPole Installation

American flag blowing in the blue skyWhen it comes to flagpole installation in El Paso, there are some things we think you should know before getting started. To the average person, installing a flagpole may appear like a pretty simple process. However, don’t be fooled by this assumption. Installing a flagpole correctly is everything and you must remember that a flag pole will have to be able to withstand the test of time and stay true against the unpredictability of extreme weather. Installing a flagpole requires much more than simply digging a hole and sticking a pole in the ground.

Some Things You Should Know:

FirstThink about trees nearby and how future growth may block views of the flag or branches get too close to the flag fully extended in a breeze.  Also, consider how close the pole is to buildings or rooflines which may cause problems when the flag is flown at half staff. you have to select the best location. Don’t settle on a location that can be challenging in case you decide on building expansion in the future. Save yourself some time and money by deciding on the best location for your flagpole right from the start.

Second –  Dig the proper hole for your pole size.  Your pole will extend usually 10% of the distance of the pole height above the ground.  Dig the hole about 4 to 6 times the diameter of the base of the pole and to the required depth.   Insert the sleeve provided with the pole into the center of the hole.

Third Fill the area around the sleeve with regular concrete.  Do not use a rapid setting mix as it will damage the sleeve.  Wait a day or two before inserting the pole into the sleeve.  Then plumb the pole with wooden wedges and fill the rest of the empty area with sand and drop flash collar to have a finished looking base. Oh, by the way, you did remember to add all the accessories and flash collar to the pole before dropping it into the sleeve, right?

The Two Types of Gas Logs.

To begin, you want to consider what type of log your home’s fireplace is equipped for. The two types of gas logs are Vented and Ventless gas logs. Vented gas logs can usually be connected to an existing gas line in your fireplace, though in rare cases a line might need to be installed in your fireplace. These logs do require an open ventilation system and provide a nice aesthetic yellow flame. The Ventless gas logs are often more expensive but provide significantly more heat and do not require an open ventilation system. There are some restrictions as to room type and amount of BTU’s allowed which are important for safety and comfort.
